Before Grain by Merrick

My local Petland just started selling Before Grain by Merrick.  I’m so excited for my cat!  He loves to eat and it makes me feel good that I’m trying to give him the best food possible.  He responded well to the dry food sample several months back.  I’ve also noticed that he’s not much of a tuna or salmon lover.  I can tell since he’s not enthusiatically scarfing down his chicken of the sea.  I’m kind of surprised since he’s not usually very picky.  Anyway, although I think seafood is healthier than red meat; it’s what he wants that counts most.  He does love canned chicken and turkey so I usually give those to him mixed with his fave dry food.  Merrick is amazing, his coat has really improved, healthy weight has been maintained, and to my shock his bald patches on his back feet are actually growing back (the patches were there even before his adoption).  I will probably keep his food consistently to daily wet and dry Before Grain.  I also give him cat Greenies as an in-between snack even though I brush his teeth everyday.  He seems so bored and restless sometimes.  Food is his life.  He looks forward to his food and heavy doses of lovings :).

Dog Rules

My friend Ann sent an email to me a while back regarding “Dog Rules.”  I’m sure some of you have already encountered it.  I thought I should post for those of you who haven’t.  It’s really cute and clever =).

The Miracle of Pill Pockets

Before Pill Pockets, I used liverwurst for Stella’s monthly Sentinel dose.  It was great except that it left my fingers a little greasy and it was more salty than I would have liked for her.  I was really desparate since she would hold the pill in her mouth, body trembling, when the pill came loose from the food ball or whatever else I used to roll the pill into…  Pill Pockets are also available for cats and can be purchased at any Petland and I’m so thankful that someone thought of it.

Trip To Cape Cod & Nantucket Island

Andrew, Stella, and I had lots of fun on this 4 day trip.  Our last family trip was a little over a year ago, so this one was well overdue.  Neo stayed with Grandma and Grandpa and was very well cared for.  I wish he could have come with us.

We stayed at a pet-friendly Eastham bed & breakfast in the “First Mate’s Cabin.”  Cute name.  Stella had her first ship ride on the Hy-Line Cruises.  She was fairly well behaved both ways but started getting restless on the way back to Hyannis after awaking from a nap (which was understandable).  She wasn’t in the strolling mood once we arrived in Nantucket :(.  The weather was a little gloomy and cool.  It started pouring at around 4:00 pm after our bus tour of the Island, so we decided to head back to Cape Cod earlier.  I’m so glad we were able to go on the bus tour since I didn’t get to do that the very first time I visited Nantucket with my friend.  We were on a rather tight schedule in 2000 since we were at the mercy of our tour group schedule.

On this family trip, we mainly drove around on the Cape and visited e.g. Wellfleet, Eastham, Hyannis, Sandwich, Orleans, and Provincetown.  Andrew and Stella has never visited Martha’s Vineyard so that will be a destination for next time.

Bath Time: Spa Treatment in the Comforts of Home

Stella lavished in Spa goodies (shampoo, conditioner, facial scrub, and lastly fragrant mist). Her coat and paws stay nice and soft. Plus the scent is very pleasant and not at all overwhelming. I usually give her an extra spritz a few days later. Stella’s skin tends to get dry and itchy during the winter months so I use SheaPet Treatment Balm with shea butter and aloe as a remedy with great results. Another absolutely wonderful product I use on her is Sexy Beast Perfume– sort of reminds me of people perfume. I was given a sample of Sexy Beast during the New York Pet Fashion Week 2007 trade show and absolutely fell in love with it!
